Lagos State University – Home (lasu.edu.ng)

Being a specialist in high-quality training Generative CAD Services designed a workshop program for Lagos State University that would lead to real-world application through the design of covid19 safety door handles, face shields, and an office pen holder.

A comprehensive training program was rolled out during the course of 5 days ranging from introductory design concepts in Autodesk Fusion 360 to generative design and make capabilities. The participants were not only taught to digitally create the models in Fusion 360 but they also got to see the real-world application by 3D printing three of the projects. To facilitate 3D- printing the university received an Ender 3 Pro 3D printer through the Lagos State Chamber of Commerce.

The training program was completed by providing free access to Fusion 360 licenses for the faculty computer labs at Lagos State University to enable continued learning and use of Fusion 360 in upcoming courses.

Felix Amaefule Chukwubuikem heads up Generative Design Services and facilitated the workshops.

“We designed this training program using project based learning principles to show faculty members at Lagos State University the real-world application of digital design. We look forward to continuing working with Lagos State University as they implement Autodesk Fusion 360 in upcoming activities.”

“The course has exposed me to new ways of design and is going to be useful in teaching our students. The course is also very important in product development.”

“The program is very useful in training students for their career and for further knowledge in the field of engineering”

Clintonel Innovation Centre – Hardware Convention 2021

Hardware Convention 2021 is a national conference that brought together stakeholders (inventors, makers, engineers, makerspaces, fablabs, hardware startups/entrepreneurs, academia, investors, etc.) in the Nigerian hardware (engineering) ecosystem to Aba, Abia State, Nigeria. This was a hybrid event (with both physical and virtual participants). Hardware Convention 2021 was supported by Ukaid through CovidAction (Local Production Local Solutions) – a project to build Technology and Innovation Pipeline for the COVID Pandemic and surface remarkable pivots and innovations dealing with the demand for unavailable goods.

THEME: Advancing hardware, engineering & manufacturing businesses in Nigeria

DATES: 26 – 28th August 2021

Introduction to Clintonel Innovation Centre (CIC) by Chinecherem Iheke

Hardware Convention 2021 was organised and hosted by Clintonel Innovation Centre (CIC) – a solar powered STEM Centre, Nigeria’s first Makerspace (Engineering Tech Hub) and Hardware Startup Incubator. Clintonel provides training, mentoring and equipment for young people to create engineering innovations, build indigenous products and start-up technology businesses. With a vision to facilitate industrialisation in Nigeria, Clintonel has trained over 600 young persons in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM), Renewable (Solar) Energy and Entrepreneurship. They’ve also trained over 1,000 secondary school students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) using indigenous STEM kits developed by Clintonel.

To deliver on the mandate of building engineering capacity, generating employment and reducing poverty in Nigeria, Clintonel has worked with different partners including: PIND Foundation, ACT Foundation, Royal Academy of Engineering, Ford Foundation, Autodesk, ATOM, GEMINI, UKaid, UCL, etc.

Introduction to Hardware Convention 2021 by Tochukwu Chukwueke

Hardware (Engineering) is at the core of national development. No nation can advance technologically or economically without a strong engineering capability. Negligence of the hardware sector is one of the major reasons Nigeria is suffering from 33% unemployment rate (one of the highest in the world) and 60% poverty rate. The hardware sector is responsible for producing and maintaining the tools, machines and equipment required by the manufacturing sector which is a major employer of labour. Today, Nigerian industries rely heavily on importation for virtually all the machinery they use, causing Nigeria to lose a lot of forex and the Naira to depreciate in value.

Last year Nigeria imported machinery worth $9 billion, $3 billion for manufacturing tools. The hardware sector is also responsible for producing Military equipment as well as several consumer goods like electronics and domestic appliances. If we develop the Nigerian hardware sector within the next 10 years, Nigeria will save over $100 billion in forex, generate employment for 20 million people and grow our GDP by 50%.

Until we pay serious attention to developing the Nigerian hardware sector, Nigeria may never experience any meaningful development, job creation or poverty reduction.

Hardware Convention 2021 aims to achieve the following:

  1. Draw attention to hardware (engineering) as a core of national development
  2. Attract investments into the Nigerian hardware sector
  3. Showcase the incredible ingenuity of Nigerian hardware innovators, engineers, fabricators and entrepreneurs

Clintonel is an Autodesk Learning Partner (ALP) that has been authorized by Autodesk to deliver official training to students, educators and industry professionals.

Autodesk Fusion 360 workshop with AruCAD Süsteemid

According to Autodesk, their product Fusion 360 unifies design, engineering, electronics and manufacturing to connect your entire product development process into one cloud-based platform. KnowledgePoint has succeeded in successfully implementing Autodesk’s initiative to help its partners share their certified knowledge on Fusion 360 with their learners via various workshops.

It is a great initiative that helps a lot in promoting Fusion 360 among the academic institutions. We as a partner organization find value in this possibility as it is enabling us to get in touch with teachers and students in the universities. The students of today are the practicing engineers of the future. And it is very important that the tools of the trade are introduced to them in an appropriate way.”  – AruCAD Süsteemid, Autodesk Gold Partner in Estonia.

Fusion 360

Fusion 360 is the first 3D CAD, CAM, CAE, and PCB tool of its kind. Autodesk has been keen to help their users learn to use Fusion 360 via their Authorised Partners in a workshop format. It is clear that learning institutions are looking to incorporate Fusion 360 into their learning curriculum.

When we first started teaching in-depth CAM courses, the plan was to utilize several different software packages. Some world-famous brands, including Solidworks, among them. Today our teaching and learning is based mainly on Autodesk Fusion 360, due to its excellent capabilities and ease of use.

Tõnu Leemet Ph.D.

“I would like to thank you for conducting and organizing a very interesting Fusion 360 practical training. Special thanks to Tõnu Leemet, who showed and taught our students very clearly and comprehensibly. We really liked the training. The students were thrilled. They said it was easy to follow because they have had AutoCad experience and a little bit of Fusion 360 skill too. Some even promised to use this program in their graduation theses or later in the workplace in the future.”

Veroonika Shirokova, Senior Lecturer of TalTech Virumaa kolledž
