Important Notice about FTP

Dear KnowledgePoint FTP Users,

On the 1st of November 2021, we will be disabling our FTP service and advise all customers using FTP to use SFTP and FTPS instead. Our SFTP and FTPS service will remain fully operational.

What are FTPS and SFTP?

FTPS and SFTP (File Transfer Protocol Secure and Secure File Transfer Protocol) are secure versions of FTP that ensures your files are encrypted during transmission. Specifically, SFTP is FTP over SSH (Secure Shell), and FTPS is FTP over SSL (Secure Socket Layer). Both are secure protocols widely supported by a majority of FTP clients.

Can I start using FTPS or SFTP now?

YES! FTPS and SFTP are currently available right now at the same address (ftp.knowledgepoint.co.uk) with your same credentials. All you must do is change your settings, so your software uses the secure version of FTP. In some cases, your software may already be using it so there may be no need to change your settings. If you’re not sure please contact your IT department. Alternatively, you can call the KnowledgePoint IT Service Desk on +44 (0) 1189 181 599 or email ServiceDesk@knowledgepoint.co.uk

My client does not support SFTP or FTPS, what can I do?

There are some FTP clients (Including Microsoft Windows inbuilt FTP client) that do not support FTPS or SFTP. We recommend upgrading or changing your FTP software to one that does support FTPS or SFTP as from 29th of June standard FTP connections will be refused. If you are unsure about which client to use we recommend contacting your IT department in the first instance. For your information we have successfully tested two free FTP clients:

If you would like help configuring your FTP client, we recommend contacting your IT Department in the first instance. You may also call the KnowledgePoint IT Service Desk on +44 (0) 1189 181 599 or email ServiceDesk@knowledgepoint.co.uk
